Overview:
ASU Mid-South, a comprehensive community college located just minutes from downtown Memphis, Tennessee, seeks a reliable, detail-oriented, and communicative individual to serve as a Clinical Coordinator for its Emergency Medical Services program. The Clinical Coordinator plays a vital role in assisting with the EMS Programs during both classroom and lab phases. This position involves coordinating with clinical sites, ensuring compliance with programmatic requirements, and facilitating effective communication between students, faculty, and clinical partners. This job description outlines the primary qualifications and responsibilities expected of the Clinical Coordinator in managing EMS program clinical aspects and ensuring student success throughout their clinical rotations.
This is a part-time position, not to exceed 29 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Services, Paramedic, or a related field.
- Current National Registry Paramedic in the State of Arkansas as well as currently licensed as a Paramedic in the State of Arkansas. May be required to obtain Tennessee and Mississippi license.
- Experience in EMS education or clinical coordination highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in clinical data tracking systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Knowledge of college policies, procedures, and practices.
- Effective planning, organization, and multitasking abilities.
- Working knowledge of common hardware and software on devices running recent versions of the clinical patient care platform, Platinum.
Responsibilities: Reports to the Paramedic Science Program Director and has responsibility for administration and coordination of student clinical rotations. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coordinate with EMS Program Director reviewing activities during classroom and lab phases.
- Contact designated individuals at scheduled clinical sites to clarify student scheduling expectations and address inquiries.
- Verify and maintain current facility contracts between the college and clinical sites.
- Develop, plan, and execute Clinical and Field internship orientations prior to commencement of clinical rotations.
- Conduct comprehensive Clinical Coordinator Orientation sessions covering:
- Review of Clinical Manual and Field Internship Manual.
- Terminal competency requirements.
- Attendance policies and schedule expectations.
- Proper and expected utilization of clinical data tracking systems.
- Dress code and professional conduct guidelines.
- Ensure prompt entry of patient contact information into clinical, field, and internship tracking systems within 72 hours post-shift.
- Conduct weekly meetings with each enrolled student to monitor progress, address issues, and respond to questions.
- Require students to maintain weekly communication via email, phone, or text, regarding progress and concerns.
- Perform weekly audits of the data tracking system, including:
- Scheduling accuracy.
- Student attendance.
- Documentation completion.
- Evaluation completion.
- Preceptor sign-offs.
- Absence reporting and reasons.
- Competency tracking.
- Patient care report narratives.
- Facilitate mid-point and closeout meetings with students to assess academic progress, review terminal competencies, and complete necessary forms.
- Document and log all student communications related to scheduling, progress, placements, and requests.
- Arrange at least one student visit to each clinical facility, focusing on documentation review, competency progression, case discussions, and observations.
- Collaborate closely with program faculty to ensure consistent student support and progression.
- Provide regular updates on student progress and issues to the Program Director.
Salary: $25.00/hour for up to 29 hours a week.
