What We Do
We are committed to providing orientation, transition and retention programs for incoming students that promote intellectual and social development leading to personal and academic success. First-Year Experience is responsible for oversight of the following areas:
Camp Greyhound (CGH)
CGH is our eight-day summer orientation experience for incoming students. It is a program intended to familiarize incoming students with ASU Mid-South’s campus, traditions, and numerous student services and programs. Students who successfully complete CGH will receive free college credit for the College Success course. Click here to register.
Successfully Orienting Students (SOS)
SOS is our one-day orientation experience for incoming students. It is designed to make ASU Mid-South’s new students feel welcome and introduce them to the many traditions, services, and programs offered. (New Student Orientation)
First-Year Seminar (FYS)
All College Success (FYS) courses at ASU Mid-South have common elements and goals within the classroom. The purpose of the course is to help students make the transition to college-level learning. As part of this effort, our FYS courses focus attention on the intellectual and social skills students need to flourish at ASU Mid-South. As a place to ask questions about the institution and practice the skills needed to succeed as a first-year student, these courses provide support for the transition into college life and the Greyhound community.

ACE That Class Series
The Ace That Class series, hosted by First Year Experience, is designed to connect student participants with faculty, staff, and campus departments at ASU Mid-South through educational panels and interactive workshops. Throughout the year, students are able to attend interactive sessions centering around topics such as time-management, reading difficult material, taking effective notes, and many other useful topics for college students wishing to succeed academically.
