Arkansas State University Mid-South is pleased to announce an articulation agreement with the Boilermakers & Welders Institute (BWI) for welding courses for students who choose to advance their level of learning.
The articulation agreement will allow ASU Mid-South students who have finished The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Welding Level l & 2 to get credit for two years of welding training at the Boilermakers Welding Institute. ASU Mid-South students will enter the BWI at the third year training level. This is a paid apprentice level of training. Both the BWI and ASU Mid-South use the same curriculum for NCCER welding level l & 2.
Likewise, any BWI student can come to ASU Mid-South and get up to 25 hours of college credit towards their Associate of Applied Science degree, after successfully completing the NCCER Welding level 1 & 2 at the BWI.
“It’s a win-win for both organizations, but especially for the students. Someone from the BWI can come to ASU Mid-South and work on an associate degree and someone from here can further their technical training in an apprentice work environment,” said Ed Cook, Lead Welding Technology Instructor.
Ryan Green, Director of Operations and Training for BWI said, “Boilermaker Welding Institute is proud and honored to share in the partnership agreement with ASU Mid-South. This is a two directional pathway for those students seeking a high-level advancement in the industrial industry.”
The agreement is set to begin with the coming fall 2017 semester. Both groups of students will have to complete a portfolio with NCCER certifications to show evidence of successful completion.
