High demand. Skills gap. Critical need.
These are just a few terms that describe the outlook of the welding workforce.
While it’s true that many skilled welders are needed to meet future demand, the situation is nuanced and also speaks to the opportunities awaiting professionals entering the field or those considering a career change.
According to the American Welding Society, there are expected to be over 400,000 job openings nationally in the welding industry by 2025 and, currently, women only constitute 5% of the workforce.
ASU Mid-South welding program is addressing the gender imbalance and urgent talent shortage in the welding and manufacturing industries through our intensive and introductory training programs.
We are developing economic opportunities for women and diversifying the workforce.
After successfully completing any three of the four welding process courses offered at ASU Mid-South, students may enroll in welding fabrication coursework. These advanced courses can help students grow their skillset and become a fabricator or fitter. Students can gain the skills to fabricate, position, align, and fit parts of structural metal products, which are highly sought in the welding trade.
